Something Greater

When my thoughts trouble me, I turn my troubled heart to you in prayer. Protect me, God, for I take refuge in you. You are my Lord; I have no true, lasting good except in you. I trust in your rule over everything that concerns me. You hold my future. You are my refuge and strength, my Helper who is always found in times of trouble. Train my heart to not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas, though nations roar and disasters threaten. Thank you, LORD, for you are good. Your faithful love will bring me through. Lord, the day is yours, and the night; you established the moon and the sun. You set all the boundaries of the earth; you made summer and winter. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with majesty and splendor. Lord, train my heart and mind to see, hear, obey and worship you...in moments of fatigue and fighting, as well as in moments of peace and contentment. For you are my faithful love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer. Your are my shield, and I take refuge in you; you are working in me daily, in every circumstance, to subdue my hard heart, my selfish pride, and my impatient discontent and lack of gratitude. How long will I store up anxious concerns within me, agony in my mind every day? How long will worries, threats, weakness, and frustration dominate me?  Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for He is our Savior and our God! LORD my God, restore brightness to my eyes. I know that I am always with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel. You have promised me a home with you in glory. I desire nothing on earth but you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but you, my God, are the strength of my heart, my portion forever. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who trust in him only and ever.  In you alone, God my Father, do I place my hope. Lord, hear my prayer; let my cry for help come before you.  Show me your face in my day of trouble. Lord, guard my heart today; protect my heart against unfaithfulness and dishonor to you.  Protect my words from deceit and flattery. Fill my heart with your pure Word. As a deer longs for flowing streams, so I long for you, God.  I thirst for you, the living God. When can I come and be with you? Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil?  Put your hope in God, and I will praise him, my Savior and my God. Lord, send your faithful love by day, and your song of love in the night.  This is my prayer to the God of my life.
