The Way // A Prayer from Today's Psalms // July 1, 2025

Image
Lord, what broken, sin-confused platform, pleasure or protest am I thoughtlessly allowing to guide my plans and desires? What assumptions am I naively making that I'm not questioning...not contrasting with your holy Word? Lord God Almighty, my only King and Counselor, Savior and Sustainer, lead me in the way I should walk, the way in which I should stand, the way in which I should sit, and the way in which is my greatest good and your greatest glory! In you, O Lord, do I take refuge from deceptive, destructive counsel. In your righteousness deliver me. For your name's sake, lead me and guide me out of the net of self-glorification, self-moralization, and self-defeating desire to impress others. Into your hand I commit my spirit, for you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God! My times are in your hand, and gladly will I trust you through thick and through thin. I Am Alone // A Prayer from Today's Psalms // June 25, 2025

Image
Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am alone and afflicted. The distresses of my heart increase; bring me out of my sufferings. Fear and trembling grip me. I complain and groan morning, noon, and night. Consider my affliction and trouble, and forgive all my sins. Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; I wait for you all day long. Remember, LORD, your compassion and your faithful love, for they have existed from the beginning. Do not remember the sins of my youth or my acts of rebellion; in keeping with your faithful love, remember me because of your goodness, LORD. My Rock // A Prayer from Today's Psalms // June 18, 2025

Image
Lord Jesus, remind me today that you are my Rock, our Most High God, and my Redeemer. Train my soul to be sincere toward you, to be faithful to your Holy Word. Teach my voice to sing praise with the whole of my being, for your love is higher than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Fulfill your purpose for me, in every circumstance you have determined for me today. Lord, hear my prayer! // A Prayer from Today's Psalms // June 12, 2025

Image
Lord, hear my prayer; let my cry for help come before you.  Show me your face in my day of trouble. Lord, guard my heart today; protect my heart against unfaithfulness and dishonor to you.  Protect my words from deceit and flattery. Fill my heart with your pure Word. As a deer longs for flowing streams, so I long for you, God.  I thirst for you, the living God. When can I come and be with you? Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil?  Put your hope in God, and I will praise him, my Savior and my God. Lord, send your faithful love by day, and your song of love in the night.  This is my prayer to the God of my life. 1 Timothy 3: Husband of One Wife

Husband of One Wife 1 Timothy 3:2 What has gone before... Paul has written a " job description " for the office of overseer, beginning and ending with two similar descriptors that serve as general heading and summary: Above Reproach and Well Thought Of. "Above reproach" and "well thought of" are open to various definition, according to who is watching or judging. Paul lists twelve specific attitudes, behaviors or conditions which help define these two character qualities. Moving on... "An overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed ...
